1. My 63 valiant runs 50 lbs oil pressure when it starts up and stays there pretty much all the time while cruiseing unless I really get on it then it will go to 75 lbs and drop back to 50 when I let off of it, is that normal?

2. Also I bought a vacume meter to set my timing and tuning, While it's running it show 19-20 inches vacume go to about 2000 rpm's and it reads about 27 to 28 inches is that good I have no idea about these vacume meter, all i ever done was tune it by ear? Plenty confussed by the thing

You have a good oil pump and small bearing clearances. You can easily afford to run lower viscosity oil. What oil are you using?
This indicates that the engine is sealing well at the valves and rings. Hook up the vacuum gauge so that you can read it while driving. For maximum fuel economy maintain as high a reading as possible under the particular driving conditions.

75# of oil pressure is really high. Your pump's pressure relief valve may not be operating correctly.

With 75# of pressure at the speeds our engines typically run, you may be damaging your bearings.

The general rule of thumb is 10# per 1000 rpm. No more, and certainly no less. 50# is a good number for most slants.

Anything heavier than 10W30 is too heavy a viscosity unless you have an engine specifically set up to run in racing applications with heavier oil.

I like to set my timing with a timing light. I've set my idle speed with vacuum gauges when I didn't have a tach it's not a bad way to do it at all I just normally have a tach in my cars or do it by feal (if it doesn't have a tach I dont care enough to hook up a vacuum gauge) ( unless it has some driveability issues I dont like.)
