Eastwood answered you that way because the paint formulation is out of their hands. Like almost everything in their catalogue, they buy it from someone else, mark it (way) up, and rebrand it, then write flowery text about how "they" have specially made "their" engine paint to be better than everyone else's, blah blah blah.

I'm not really familiar with mopar, but with Fords in the 60's and '70s there was quite a bit of variation in the shades of engine paint. I guess it was under the hood and out of view, so they really didnt need to spend the money matching every batch of paint.

My current favorite brand of engine enamel is " Color Xtra" brand that my local supply place carries. it flows out nicely, has a nice gloss and seems to stand up well.

I used it on an offroad motorcycle engine a few years ago and it hasnt worn off yet in the usual places where the riders boots rub on the engine cases.

i checked out the duplicolor/vht website. If they are correct, the way the paint is cured has something to do with the durability. They have a procedure to follow for best results. In the video, they do a vehicle, paint car and engine somewhere in Detroit and when they are done, they drive it to Las Vegas. They popped the hood and everything is just like when they left from Detroit (no doubt eh?). Of course proper cleaning and prep is mandatory. (I was somewhat impressed) [The young gal in the video is real cute also.] Even the hedders were painted and the paint still looked good. Now, I wonder if they actually drove that car all the way to Vegas or did they put it in a truck and transport it and make it seem like they did drive it? Oh well, if it does what the video says it does, it would be great! They painted the engine with engine paint, the chrome valve covers were painted with wrinkle paint and the hedders were painted with their high temp paint. The engine compartment was painted also with duplicolor. It all looked good if I am to believe everything. (I'm a skeptic though, sometimes)

Sounds like the production team from "Overhaulin" was at work.
Being a skeptic will keep you from being taken sometimes.
I think that sticking to known best practices will make many of these different products work well.
As far as color-match, who knows? I'm going to ask my ppg jobber if his ditzler books from the 60's have any "associated colors"
Does anyone know the actual code (###) for street hemi orange?
