I am enclosing some other photos of our Acapulco. The Acapulco was a special mexican only version built for the youngsters offered only with the two door sedan (no hardtop was built here until 1963)... consisting mainly of better appointments for the interiors and trim: bucket seats (from the american Signet) special console with tachometer (VDO) that looks like the ones of the Chyrsler 300 with armrest, rear seats with central armrest, always in red vinyl. For the restoration we opted for an 1967 225 mainly with standard items, the modifications consisting in an newer camshaft (16 degrees overlap), Offenhauser manifold with two Carters BBs and direct exhaust with 2 1/4 tube all the way with an direct muffler and a direct Stratus resonator, the car has a good sound but we want the precious Dutra Duals... The mexican gasoline is not the best, and that, added with the altitude here make us remain with the original compression ratio....It still has 3 on the tree...(everything was rebuilt) for example, for the diff we opted for Timkem bearings (hard to come by here). As we said, because of the altitude here in Mexico City (2240 meters above the sea level) the timing was set at 10 degrees without vacuum (at 13 it starts pinking) and a max of 35, the valve lash as recomended by Dr. Dodge. Still with points and the original curb on the dist. The float levels on the carbs were set at 1/4 with a restricted idle mixture on both (we are still tuning them for better mileage, which is in fact not bad as we have recorded recently). We where able to install on both carbs stock chokes. We are reaching for NGK spark plugs, hard to come by also... The engine is really smooth and has good torque (you must consider all the 1960-62 Valiants sold here where 170s). Other modifications consisted on an electronic regulator (inside an old original regulator "box"), electric fuel pump just a feet or less from the tank, new fuel lines, new brake lines, new brakes (stock), diaphragm clutch, KYB shock heavy duty absorbers, new heavy duty radiator. It took us 3 years to complete, I enclose some photos of the car "as found" mostly a kicked bucket, but we wanted to restore it because it is an original Acapulco, a real rare car here. Now everything in the car is in working order, for example, the instruments are operating thanks for the tips we found in the forum (external regulator from a 68 Valiant)...

We have two other Valiants, a 1960 american built v-200 an a mexican built v-100 our father bought new, car which is the reason of our fanaticism.

We will put photos of those cars IN A NEW TOPIC.

Thanks again

Regards from Mexico

OH man!... That center console is sweeeet.
I assume that that (gr?) was stock for that particular car (I see the Acapulco emblem there), if I am not mistaken no 60-62 U.S. Valiants had center consoles.
Superb job on the car, it looks fantastic. :D

Hi. Yes, the console was special to the Acapulco (it's heavy). This same console was installed also on 1963 Acapulco's, for 1964 the design changed, and for 1965 a new one came along with wood inserts (really nice), always with the armrest that also serves as a glove box, courtesy lights, ash tray and the Tach. Some Acapulco's used a Stewart Warner Tach that required a sending unit.

I want to thank all for the response. Here in Mexico these cars are more of a rarity and some think are only toads. for us, they are really cool, but what we love most is the slant six, simply unburstable.

Regards :D
