I have access to an aluminum block slant. the guy wants 400 for the block and stock pistons, rods, crank. engine is a 62 i believe. I have a few questions.
will the needed components in my 64 slant(with 904 tranny) transfer to this aluminum block?
is there anything i should be aware of when it comes to milling the block and the head for 9 to1 compression?
are there any dangers when it comes to reliability with the aluminum block?
is 400 a reasonable asking price, or should i haggle down?

Welcome on the board. Threads about the aluminum engine, its peculiarities, its limitations, and its worth are here, here, here, here, and here. All internal components are the same except for the upper and lower main bearing caps, the rear main seal retainer and its gaskets. Connecting rods get installed the other way round on an aluminum engine compared to a '63+ iron engine. Cylinder head needs attention to make sure of a compatible match with the block, head gasket is different. Same transmission bolt pattern. If the block is complete with all upper and lower main caps, has no problematic corrosion or other damage, has meat left to bore (not already bored 0.040"), and the cam bearing surfaces are undamaged, then $400 is a good price.

No its not worth the 80lbs. If you decide to pass on it please pass the contact info on to those who may want it. I know Lou ( Dart 270) is always looking for good Aluminum engines.

If it's really in good shape (no corrosion), then $400 is a fair price. It will be a bit of a hassle to build, especially finding the OEM alum engine head gaskets.

I'm interested in contact info, and if I don't want it, I know someone who probably will.

dart 270, my buddy checked out that dart (which ended up being junk unfortunately) and brought home bad news. The aluminum block is sold. Ill keep my ears and eyes open for one and toss you a message if i find something.
