After reading the 198 long rod post i didn't even know summit sold the pistons.
So why are we milling heads or decking blocks if we can get pistons with raised C.H.(like the KB 107s for SBs) to bump up our C/R?
I would rather spend the money on pistons than mach. shop fees.

It was confusing when i tried to compare the C.H. on summit. Seems KB list C.H. and F.M. list comp. distance, how do i compare them?
I am sure that someone has already worked this out... what cast piston would give me 9-9.5 C/R with the stock 225 rods for a rebuild.
I would rather pay 100.00 more for pistons that for decking the block. My mach shop said about 200 to deck the block. seems high. I would like to just bore OS and buy new pistons.

Summit sells stock replacement pistons which have about the same compression height (compression distance is the same thing) as stock pistons. The Wiesco pistons are meant for a longer rods and therefore have a shorter compression distance. There is no off the shelf piston at this time to raise the compression ratio of a 225 with stock connecting rods.

Ok thanks. i called KB today and quizzed them. they said the same thing. they have stock replacement style pistons but not any raised C.H. ones.
looked hard at F.M. too
So thats why we have to do the shaving.
well i guess i will get some of those summit pistons. can any block be bored to 60 over or is there years that are thicker?

You can buy +.080" stock replacement pistons. Mike Jeffry told me he used to sonic check blocks before he'd bore them +.100", but since they all came back good he quit having them checked. Have you read the block article? http://www.slantsix.org/articles/dutra- ... blocks.htm

yes i reread that this morning. i have all 3 blocks here i could use. i am leaning toward the cast crank block (85) because i like the idea of juice lifters. i am doing more of a Daily driver build so i don't need all the extra cam choices. thinking of the rv10 or rv 15 haven't figured that out yet. guess i will stay in the 30 -60 over size for my pistons. i like the head with no plug tubes to leak. will have to do something with the air pump holes. i thought they ran that air into the ex. manifold. but on these they ran it in beside the ex valve.

I might be misreading this post, but the Summit pistons can only be used with the 225 rods on a 225 crank, or 198 rods on a 198 crank. They cannot be used on 198 rods with a 225 crank.

Yes i am going to use the 225 rods in this build. just a plane jane build wanting good MPG and best running i can get. worried the rv-15 might be to much. i am planing on getting the block milled enought to get me up to 9-9.5 -1 CR. so anybody that had done this kind of build i would like to hear what cam u used. RV-10 ,RV12 ,RV15
