Sounds like your a tooth off.

Another quick way is to have someone roll (don not start it) the engine over while you have you finger in the #1 spark plug hole. It will blow your finger out at TDC. Have them stop at that moment and look down at the timing marks. They should be lined up (0) at TDC. IF not rotate the engine over by had to line them up, then pull the cap off and document the rotor position. It should be pointing to the lower right.......if not, for example if it is pointing 90 degrees to the right instead (3:00), move it one position to the right.

got it to TDC and the teeth correct i think cause it fired right up
but died quickly...i think my battery is about shot now
but i saw the egr valve gasket leaking
i think i still have some vaccum issues
i looked at the 1920 diagram and fixed a few things but not positive i have them all correct
mainly the pcv valve one and the fuel bowl one...

Sounds like you have several vacuum leaks, it isn't going to run for crap until you get them fixed

Then you will need the shop manual. It has a way of setting up the distributer the first time. It involves taking out number one spark plug and putting your thumb over the hole to feel compression and then lining up the number one tower on the cap. Please note that with the gear on the end of the distributer shaft it will rotate the rotor so you need it lined up with the distributer seated on the block-not as you feed it in.

So in the FAQ, when you look at the carburetor link, you should be able to pull up the Holley 1920 manual from there. One of the photos shows the Larger fitting that goes to your PCV valve. It's near the base of the carburetor.

so does the gas float bowl one get blocked off?
i have a little breather on it right now...mainly cause i didnt wanna lose the breather

No, it would go to the charcoal canister. (To keep the gas stink down.)
I don't have a '73 service manual. You'll be miles ahead if you get one of those.

Perhaps someone that has your year of car can provide a vacuum routing map, and the location of the ported vacuum for your distributor. Can you post a photo showing where you have things routed?

They gave me some ideas for future mods for my 76 Valiant. I'm running an 225/904 out of a 69 Dart with a freshly rebuilt 1920.

I also love the sanitary engine bay....very nice.
