I just had the driver's side off of my '63 and it's really easy. At the bottom of the housing there are two small bolts, 1/4 socket IIRC, they anchor two small plates that attach to two long J-bolts that pass through the housing that hook on to the body of the car itself. Just loosen the the two bolts, unhook the J-bolts and the unit comes off. Just as easy to reinstall.

And I agree, the stock hinges are way cheesy, Chrysler could have done better on these, but that's just one minor complaint in contrast to a well built car.
