I bought a Slant Six core with transmission attached and can't get them separated. It looks like the trans is held with only 3 bolts (which is kind of hard to believe...) One is on the passenger side towards the bottom, the other 2 are on the drivers side where the starter would mount on a car. With all 3 bolts out though the engine and trans won't separate. Are there other (hidden???) bolts that I'm not seeing?

Thanks,
Ken

The bolts are in your picture. Remove the ones that go from the transmission into the engine block, and the ones that go into the bellhousing from the engine side.

Make sure you have it close to the floor. That transmission is going to be heavy. Pull the lower splash cover off as well. (The tin on the bottom.)

There are allignment pins in between the whole setup.

On the big bellhousing isn't there a bolt or two inside that you have to remove after the flywheel/clutch come out the bottom? I don't think you can pull the bell with the trans. :?

there should be 4 bolts holding transmission to bell housing square type pattern.... then need to remove pressure plate ,flywheel...in behind flywheel is one or two maybe 3 bolts into back of block

Just went through this myself, you have to go inside the bell. Really a crappy design.

No, on the truck bell the top bolts are inside the bell. The transmission, clutch. & flywheel have to come off so you can get inside to remove them.

I hope I didn't come off as being abrasive walpolla, I didn't imply you didn't know anything, it's only that the truck bell is very weird. I've never seen this style myself until a few months ago. Prior to that my response would have been exactly like yours.

Unless you've had fun with the NP435 and the slant six 11" clutch, you'll never have messed with this... you'll be pulling the tranny, the whole flywheel/pressureplate/etc... before you can completely remove the bellhousing....luckily the versio you have is the "late" bell...the early 60's version is about twice as heavy....
