65 Belvedere, s6/manual. I just put 20 miles on it...the first in 15 yrs. or so. I wound up having to rebuild the carb. No biggie...its all done.

I swap the carb, run a new fuel line up and over the valve cover...so I figure all is good.

I charged the battery, hopped in it and she started right up. I tweaked the idles speeds....ah....all is well.

NOW. I go back out to the car, turn the key....nothing. Not a click. Full power on the battery. No dimming of lights. So I figure its the starter relay or the switch.

I jump the relay terminals, it starts right up. try the key...nothing.
I don't have my meter, its at work. But since the key is sloppy, I'm guessing its in the switch.

Now; is a direct replacement switch available????? from who? locally I hope. I want to drive it tomorrow!!!!

Is that with a new key?

Nope. The ignition lock cylinder and the ignition switch are two separate parts. You transfer the lock cylinder from old to new switch. It's really easy: once you've removed the switch-and-lock assembly, you turn the key to the extreme end of the "start" position, depress the latch button accessible thru the side of the ignition switch, and simply pull the lock out of the switch.

If you need a new lock cylinder, it's Standard #US-12L or Echlin KS6482. But be advised, then your door and ignition locks will take different keys, unless you have the new ignition lock cylinder rekeyed to match the existing key.

Thanks Dan. The key is pretty worn, and all the locks need fiddling to get them to open correctly. I don't mind a diff. ignition key, so I'll get the key too. thanks!!!

OK; switched out the ignition switch with a spare one that I had. I assume it was good, but when I did the swap - - the same thing. Nothing in the 'start' position.

The starter relay looks like new, so it was recently changed.

So I'm back to square one. buy a NEW switch (NO one stocks them around here) and then if that doesn't work.....buy a new relay?

this stinks......

Before spending more time changing parts or spending money buying parts I'd do some diagnostic work and find the problem. Shotgunning parts at a car is wasteful.

I swapped in an ole spare ignition relay....it fired right up. The "new" looking unit was bad. the ignition switch was fine.

All is now well in Moparland.....
