Can I assume the shifter rods for a 4-speed (in a '64 Valiant) are intended to go under the cossmember? They would need to be basically "U" shaped? Has anyone done this swap recently? Does anyone have the correct rods for sale? Thanks

Only the reverse rod goes under the crossmember. It's been a while since I did this swap, but I do know this much. I will be doing this swap in my '66 Barracuda in the not too distant future.

As Josh stated the reverse rod goes under the crossmember... it's tighter in the tranny tunnel area on the '63-'66 conversions to a manual (and especially on the A-833OD).... some massaging will occur for one of the rods in relation to the floor pan...some people cut the pan for the hump, fit the tranny...then cut the remainder needed to clear the upper rod (or use a BFH on the pan)...

Best of luck,

Nope, not early A-body for sure. Those look really weird to me.

They aren't anything like the 4 speed rods I have...

I'm thinking maybe they are from an 80's Dodge Van with the OD 4-speed. Seems like I remember something along those lines. Anyway, thanks for the input, I'll make something work.

Got the trans in the car today. Now I can see where the shifter rods will go, 1-2/3-4 fit above the crossmember (mighty close) with the reverse rod going underneath. It's pretty clear now that I've remove a portion of the floor and have the trans installed. Everything looks to be hooking up properly. with any luck I'll "git-er-done" this week.

Just a late FYI on those Ebag shift rods, ain't from a van.I've got 3 of them and they're not nearly that convoluted.

I did the A-230 swap on my '65 GT, and I had to cut a hell of alot more out of my floor pan to get the shift rods through than I thought. Also, I had to massage in towards the car some of the pan next to the stock accelerator pedal, since when engaging 3rd gear the rod would touch the floorpan.

833OD to come when I have money, and a source to buy a trans from.

The shift rods do come very close to the cross-member, but if you cut just right, they clear properly, and it works.

Take pictures!
