Ok, on my 83 B150 I am almost finished with the rebuild and install. After being on a waiting list with 3 diff cam companies waiting on cores I finally went with a comp cams bumpstick. Can't remember the lift specs right off but they said the operating range was from 1200-5000rpm. I removed the air pump, lean burn computer and cat from this engine and was going to go to a 2bbl carb and intake but couldn't locate one in the boneyard so I'm going back with the standard Holley 1920 1bbl. Here are a few questions, I am retaining the vapor canister and egr but now the dist is a vacuum advance. What vacuum connections are needed? Do i use the thermostatic vacuum switch??? what ports on the carb do I need to use and what do I connect them to?? Do I need to retain the vacuum amplifier??? Also what timing in you guys experience works best with this cam?? Help please???

For the correct distributor line on the 1920 or a 1945 it is the last and smallest fitting on the bottom, passenger side closest to the firewall of the three fittings. Take a look at Dan's posts on the 1920 and 1945 carb diagrams under Engine FAQ, carb section.

You can bypass the thermostatic switch on the air cleaner. Just go straight from the carb to the distributor. You can bypass the EGR and install a block off plate. With out the EGR you won't need vacuum amplifier/hockey puck. I would keep the vapor canister. I run mine and prefer having it to eliminate any stray gas smells after shut off.

My comments are pending that you don't need to pass emissions.
It is also the same way my engine is setup. WIth a E254 .435 cam I can run up to 16 degrees initital but prefer 10 degrees.

Click on the red link below my name to view carb pictures. Double click on the picture when it comes up for full screen slide show mode.

Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. Don't randomly delete or disable devices or systems unless you know exactly what you're working with and exactly why you are deleting it.
