Can someone point me to a "How to" to eliminate the dash ammeter gauge. I figure if I'm getting HL relays, I might as well eliminate another source of underdash fires!

TIA Mike

OR: I read a Rick E blub., and that's to:

Connect a fusible link to the starter relay stud. Crimp-splice in a piece of suitable (heavy-gauge) wire, and connect the other end to the alternator stud. That’s it....firewall problems bypassed forever!

will the ammeter still work properly with this "jumper"?

is the problem really solved???

It may vary by years... but the concept is all the same.

On mine the wires had ring terminals on the end and held to the gauge with a nut. Remove the nuts and terminals off the gauge. Sand the terminals clean, then use a small machine screw and nut to hold the terminals together. Insulate with your favorite gookum - I chose adhesive-less splicing tape so it will be easy to undo if ever I need to.

See here.

(I'll add Rick E's method to the large list of hack-aѕѕ "solutions" to this often-misunderstood "problem". And no, the ammeter will not continue working after you've applied any such a hack.)

You might be interested in an active shunt http://www.tidewatermoparclub.com/TECH/ ... shunt5.pdf that keeps the ammeter working.
