Yeah…that page suffers from one of the maladies that plagues other pages on Allpar: it's an info dump with no fact-checking and contradictory recommendations. For example, on the same page we find these two pieces of advice:

"The carb is a Holley 4 barrel 4160 series which is recommended for engines in the 150-300 displacment; it has a 390 cfm rating which will work well with street and strip usage."

"The small 4-barrel carbs that are available today are much too large for 225 cubic inches, so you want to stay with a 2-barrel carb with 350 cfm or less."

I'm not sure what qualifies Mr. Engle as a "Hyper Pak specialist" (whatever that means), but I counted six basic factual errors, a few made-up guesses, and several pieces of dubious advice in the first twenty seconds' reading on that page.

What is your goal?

Ok you've sealed the deal. No more reading/researching over there. I'm betting any advice/help I need I can get here anyway. Hell I've seen you quoted all over the place as for as Slants go so I doubt there's a better place for information.

My goal? Little by little fix this truck up, first I still need to get it running. Aesthetics are secondary to having the engine in tip-top shape, or as close as possible to tip-top shape. Guess I should start a thread for that in the appropriate place...

It's good to scope out your options before you spend money on new parts, in case there's an upgrade that just makes good sense to do while you're in there, but in general it's best to get everything working/running safely and reliably and then turn your attention to upgrades.

Sean....I'm new to the slant six world, and figured out fairly quickly that allpar was a bit on the dubious side.

I don't even check there any more.

It is not a good idea. There may be an adaptor or combination of adaptors that make this physically possible. However, at some point, the fuel/air mixture has to be shoved through the 1 bbl opening.

Mopar Performance has dabbled with the 390 cfm on the Offy 4 bbl manifold and has recommendations for it in Chapter 6 of their book (PN P4876827).

This is the AussieSpeed 4 bbl manifold that I am using on my /6. I think of it as a compromise between the Offy 4 bbl and the HyperPak manifold. In Austin, I think you'll miss the lack of manifold heat for about 3 minutes until things get warm when you light the fires. It is a bit more expensive than the Offy, but I thought it was worth it.

Point to consider: Any 4 bbl carb installed on the /6 with automatic is going to need an aftermarket kickdown linkage to get the transmission to shift properly. It may be possible to adapt a stock linkage to work, but is the cost of failure worth the effort?

Back in '97 I thought I could fabricate a kick down linkage for my 904 4bbl. Two Transmissions proved I was wrong! :lol:

Knowing what I do now, I could probably do it. But the cable linkage is soooo much easier!

Lokar or no Carb! :lol:

OK, that's funnier when in the right state of mind. I'll probably die laughing at my own joke. Or something. :roll:

My Sandford-n-Son lookin' truck's a manual bro. Appreciate the input though.

I would only attempt such a conversion IF it were relatively easy. Again, not a mechanic. I do know my way around an engine but right about now I'm feeling pretty stupid considering my lack of advancements. I've been reading up on the ignition conversion topics and am hoping that all I need to do (for now) is change out the ballast resistor.

Another good reason for me to not go there.

Again I will just be taking the advice to rebuild if it needs it unless it's beyond that in which case I'm buying Dan's he has on the shelf.
