I put my d150 back on the road tonite with a new clutch. Now the brakes are acting up. The brake light is on and there is a steady squealy squeaky noise like a poorly played recorder or slide whistle. The harder I press the brake pedal the higher pitch goes. I'm going to change the vacuum hose to the booster, but I suspect the booster is bad.

After shut down of the motor the noise continues a little, trailing off slowly. Is this a common bad booster symptom?

Also, I thought the brake warning light could only mean there is an imbalance in the system front to rear indicating either air or a leak. I'm thinking a full bleeding might be in order, but I never worked on power brakes before so I know squat about it. Could the booster have anything to do with it? The booster only helps to push the piston in a regular m/c right? So since my brake light comes on and goes back off with a couple pumps I should be looking for a leak or some air in the lines unless Im mistaken?

Is it a simple bolt up deal to replace the booster? I know the power brakes don't need the retaining rubber for the pushrod, so that should make life easier, right?

bleed your brakes,and check that your drum brake adjusters are working

You might also replace the check valve (thats plugged into the booster with the vacuum hose)

Sounds like the diaphram in the booster is bad, and leaking. Make sure the master cylinder is not leaking fluid into the booster, or the new booister will not last long.
When replacing the master cyl, and/or booster on any power brake system, make sure the pushrod is adjusted properly. It must have a VERY small amount of clearence to the piston. If the rod is adjusted too long it will keep pressure in the brake system, and cause the brakes to drag. If adjusted too short, you will have a low pedal.
