1977 D100. Parked for 2 years. Got it running and idling (sometimes) Took it out for a spin to loosen things up. Smell burning brake and the front right hub is hot.

The smell was hard to destinguish because there was a bunch of other things burning off the engine, blaster, gas, marvel's mystery, and I think some ATF on the cross piece of the exhaust.

What are the odds that it is a dry bearing vs a stuck caliper piston? The hub was pretty hot and the rotor didn't seem as hot.

I'll need to drive it home about 60 miles. Is there a quick fix for this that I can do on-site? I'd like to get it home under its own power and then I'll do all the big maintenance items.

Very likely a sticking caliper. If the vehicle doesn't pull towards one side then it may be sticking just slightly.

Make sure there is no rust or foreign material preventing the caliper from operating freely. Beyond that, you are probably due for a new caliper. Drive it home carefully, then tear it down Saturday morning!

So I got it started with a gas can in the passenger seat, rode to the edge of town right before getting on the highway, and parked for a half hour so the hub would cool down and , to my thinking, contract and give up the grip. Then I rode 60 miles on highway without using the brakes once. When I got to the secondary roads by home, the brakes seemed to work ok, no hot hub. I still have to go through it all, but it was a good trip.

I'll post pictures under general topics once I figure out how to do it.

I've hooked up the gas tank proper and put two new gas filters in, one before the pump and one before the carb. Didn't do the fuel line mod and won't unless I get the symptoms. Runs nice but dosn't go from idle to drive without stalling. I'll change fluids and see if that helps.

Then new tires and brake job, park brake cable, valve adjustment, carb rebuild and that should be it for awhile.
