Do a search for Mike Jefferies. If you do a search for crank scrapers you may run into a name such as Kevin Johnson. There is a good reason that Kevin's last name is Johnson. Mike is the guy you want.

Mike sells a massage to fit scraper kit. IIRC it is around $15. 308/324-3576

Also, there is a nice design from this outfit:

http://www.crank-scrapers.com/

About $75 for the kit, which is close to fitting with no massaging, on forged crank motors (at least '62-76).

I don't doubt the quality of the product, but the above is Kevin Johnson's scraper, for what it's worth.

Thanks to everyone..........this has to be the best forum I have ever been associated with. If we could get just 1/2 of the knowledge of this group in a book it would take two volumes.
There are no critical or sarcastic remarks. You guys treat everyone the same, and if there is criticism, it is always constructive.
I thought I'd let everyone know that we are planning on Bonneville in 2012 and a written record of the process. Just in case some one else is as crazy as we are. We had a very long meeting last night and we are committed. It's at the top of the bucket list!
Thanks for all your help so far,I know there will be lots more communication as everyone needs a sounding board.
ONWARD THROUGH THE FOG,
max

I can tell you from personal experience that Kevin's scraper is a nice piece, but it is not a bolt-in. The one in my motor took quite a bit of grinding to get it to clear the crank and rods.

That doesn't matter as long as I don't find it in the bottom of the oil pan......any trouble there?

Well, I hope to be at Bonneville in 2011! What class will you be running?

Josh.. We really aren't sure yet I just joined SCTA- BNI and are contemplating the rule book.........There are a lot of ways to to this. We are looking at finding a soft spot and going for it if possible. Thinking about de-stroking a 170. Just don't know yet. We are going to try to observe the first year and get our feet wet ,so to speak. We have lake beds out here in west Texas and some very high speed outlaw road races. So we are going to be able to test to a certain degree.
Soon as I know something I'll relay the info to anyone interested.
anyway ..it's going to happen
best regards, max

Continuing to hijack the thread...

Destroke a 170? 3.125" isn't short enough? What displacement and what engine class would you run? What body class are you considering?

Josh........We are working on three engines to compete at Bonneville. Each one needs to have the potential to run in what ever class we decide. Right now we are testing and testing and testing.
Flow bench, dyno, flowbench, dyno. Our goal is to pick a soft class where we can be competitive. If that means a 125ci turbocharged or normally aspirated car. That's what it will be.
Not going to build a car and go looking for a class to put it in. Our plan is to study the classes this year and next and see what class and car chassis is going to be to our advantage. We are not in a hurry as we have been working for 19 years in a R@D mode. now it's time to do something. Drag racing is a good testbed for short term gratification and we still enjoy killing the big blocks, but Bonneville has always been the long term goal.
To make a long story short we plan to have the engines to have that choice in 2012. We wish you the best and I hope we can share whatever knowledge we acquire so a /6 will go back in the record books again at Bonneville. Remember we are only racing ourselves out there.
regards,
max

Wow, 3 engines. I'm building an 'F' engine for a gas class and will run it in a '66 Barracuda. I've got quite a few bits and pieces, but have a long way to go yet.

Josh.........we have a team actually. There are 4 of us crazies. Everyone has their job as far as R@D goes so we are able to share info. as it happens. In other words We think it's going to take everyone us to come up with something competitive. If you learn something new that will help pass it on . I'll do the same. There is so much to do.

have a good one
dave
