If the float is made of nitrophyl (plastic, typically gray or black), replace it. It absorbs fuel over time and loses bouyancy. Even if you set the height correctly, the fuel level in the bowl will be too high, and the lack of bouyancy will allow a large variation in fuel level as you drive.

Buy a rebuild kit. You'll need the numbers stamped on the vertical rib of the bowl, on the left side or left rear iirc. The kit will have an instruction sheet. Read the instructions first, and watch for the balls that are in the assembly. They are check valves. Cover your work bench with an old light-colored bath towel to catch any parts that fall/fly off.
