 Post subject: Slant-Six Dimensions

I want to put a Slant-Six in a Toyota LandCruiser, but am not sure it will fit. Could anyone help me with the Slant-Six dimensions--especially length?

Sounds cool, with allot of work I belive it could be done. but your going to have to take the bull by the horns and you better have money or some welding/ fabricating skills. Guess I would start by finding a wrecked 4WD pickup or Ram Charger with a/6 and start to figure out where the Toyota begins and the Dodge ends. I'm guessing but I think it more complicated than you now realize. but when you get it done I'm sure you will have learned a heck of allot. I would like to hear/see how it go's as my Niece and her husband are into Landcrusers. Best of luck, Bruce J.

Are you talking about the FJ-40? I believe the inline 6 used in those (and later the 4dr Landcruisers) where based on the GM 250 6cyl. Might be easier than using a slant. You may also get away with using the stock transmission. Sorry, but you looking at a lot of time and money trying to put a slant in.

Thank you for the dimension help. I like L-6 engines and am a Mopar fan, so I am somewhat motivated to get the Slant-Six to work. The LandCruiser is a 1990 FJ62. If one wants to swap out a LandCruiser driveline, plan for the rear differential being offset to the right which limits transfer case options. Some L/C transfer cases are very "married" to the transmission and are not easily adapted, either. The Dana/Spicer 18 is offset to the right and it allows for an (Warn/Saturn (Advance Adapters)) overdrive to be bolted on. This gives the 4.11 rear diff a break on highway, but still allows for more pull when wanted. I am undecided on transmissions, but the Dana/Spicer 18 can be "divorce" mounted, and so I am mostly concerned with some domestic, automatic overdrive transmission adapting to the slant six and it all being mountable while (hopefully) not having move the radiator or modify the firewall. I am only now starting to look at transmission options. If anyone has any advice, please let me know. I do want an automatic with overdrive even though there will be an overdrive on the back of the transfer case. Even with the two overdrives, the overall driveline ratios should still be ok since the rear diff will remain 4.11.

How about the width of the engine from the crank centerline to the outside of the cylinderhead?

If anyone also happens to know the width of a '74 Dart engine compartment (tower to tower), I'd like to know too.
