In the bottom left hand corner of this picture, there's a can type device that resembles one similar to the one in our 72 Duster, but we have no idea what it is. It appears to be a part of an emission control system, but we're not certain. There are vacuum hoses running to the pvc and one into the carburator. Any ideas?

If the item with the arrow to it is what you mean,it looks like the Dryer/Receiver for your aircon.It appears to have a little sight glass on the top? If so,that is what it is.


If you do not mean that,could you be a little more specific with a close up pic?
Here is an aircon diagram. The dryer/receiver is marked.

If it runs to the PVC, carb fuel bowl, and fuel tank vent...it is the charcoal cannister to divert/hold excess fuel fumes/emissions...it isn't a bad thing, but does need to have the charcoal filter replaced if it's a few decades old.

We don't have A/C in our car, so it's probably not the same as the device in the picture. We just looked at it again, and it has the following labels for the different hoses going in and out of it in this order:

Dist. Vac
PCV
Fuel Tank
Carb Bowl

There is quite clearly an aircon compressor sitting there in plain view if it is yours.

Haha, no, it's all good. Thanks for the help. I searched the forums regarding the Charcoal Canister, and it looks like it's not something I should be removing.

I'm just looking for a way to clean up the engine bay a bit to make it a little more aesthetically pleasing.

It provides a very useful function. It is great to have on hot days to reduce fuel vaporization and odor from under the hood.

We all do our best not to spill any gas or oil. Sometimes it feels like, "what's the use?" A lot of little spills equals one big spill, maybe.

Okay, so now that I've determined what the cannister is, it's quite clear that it is the culprit for putting little specks of charcoal into my carb. Any thoughts on where I could find a new one? It has these specifications:

PCV
Fuel Tank
Carb Bowl
