Runs good for tossing a con rod out the side of the block!
If he would plug the oil feed hole on the rod journal and tie the con rod out of the way, who knows how many more years of service you would get out of the thing.

Sounds like a plan to me... I'd use a generous slathering of my friend JB Weld on any open picture windows in the block, then maybe add nitrous to make up for the lost power. Maybe someone can do a tech article on a slant 5 buildup......

No kidding, I saw and old GMC truck that they used in the junkyard for years with a big V5 where the V6 used to be... I think they wired the broken rod up out of the way and then smeared some bondo-like substance on the big hole in the block. All I can figure is that the other half of the rod welded itself to the journal and sealed up the oil hole. Sounded interesting, too... "odd-fire" ;)

A friend and I were driving a 72 chevy with a straight 6 250 one night. We were going along when I heard a knockin' from the front. He calmly says it needs another quart. Since the #6 piston swelled up and welded itself in, about 2 months ago, it's been running a little hot and leaking a bit of oil. This is about 100 miles from home and around midnite. We stop and put some oil in and keep on trucking. Around 12:30 am, a nasty shreaking noise and smacking start. We pull over and take a nap. Started right up the next morning with a jump from a cop, but no knock. About a mile from home and I thought the engine was going to kill us after a loud bang. After a mid-morning tear down, you could see a welded #6, A #5 split in half, and alot of rotating scrap. It looked as if #5 was what we heard at 12:30. I believe it takes an interesting person to knowingly drive something in this condition on a road trip.

Is there even any way to save that block with some welding?
