I've managed to fix many older switches by *carefully* bending open the crimps and *very carefully* taking them apart, noting the positions of springs and things. I then just cleaned all the contacts and put it all back together and it all worked great.

Generally, I just buy a new switch when I can, but when I can't I've always been successful fixing the old one. The trick is to get everything back where it started and not to do any more damage.
