I have a new holly 2280 (bought it a couple of years ago from S6Dan)
that wont idle. Like i said the carb is brand new but has been sitting around for quite a while. I put it on my freshly rebuilt 75 solid lifter motor and she just wont idle.

i have it off and apart and cleaned everything out as best i could but still no idle

any suggestions would be appreciated

Sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. Either in the base gaskets or the intake to head gasket. Leaks can also come from using manifold to carb adaptors.

thanks for the suggestion but it didnt help

i checked everything with an unlit propane torch with someone on the throttle to keep it running and no leaks.

the only way i can get it to idle (and very poorly at that) is to block off the top of carb about 90% with my hand

its a new carb (not rebuilt) and i am stumped
