I have a 1978 Plymouth Volare that I'm going to put into a 1951 International pickup.
Here is the problem that I have ran into the distributor cap is
broken and I need a new one.
I went to five auto parts store and they do not have one to fit.
The ones they have are all to small.Does anyone have a parts #
or tell me where to get a distributor cap that will fit. The
motor is a 225 super slant six.
Thanks for any help that can be offerd.

Well, if you went to 5 different stores and they all gave you the wrong cap I would assume that the distributor on your engine is not original maybe ?

Most of the time there is a label on the box that says what it should fit, does it say it should fit on a 225 ?

Something odd is going on. Slant six distributor caps are the same for most all passenger cars and light trucks/vans. Standard CH410X is a good distributor cap rather than a cheap one and is pictured below. If a CH410X doesn't fit your distributor I would encourage you to post a picture of your distributor so we can see what you're working with.

I'm with Joshua on this - I'd like to see the distributor itself. Perhaps it got swapped from the stock application somewhere along its journey. Maybe this is an industrial application? I know early on (60's) there was another distributor was used... prestolite?

Make sure your rotor is fully seated as well.

What are the numbers on the metal tag? That might be helpful to ID the distributer as to what year etc.

Richard

True, but that distributor is nothing special or odd. CH410(X) should fit fine.

Make sure the notch at the rim of the cap is aimed at the right spot on the distributor. Tilt the cap a bit so one of the clips falls into place, then push the cap flat / square to the distributor body and hold it there. With your other hand, it shouldn't take more the one or two finger's worth of pressure - press against the center of the second clip so it slides up and over onto the cap.

With that big ol' crack you put into the bluestreak cap I'm guessing you tried to force the clips onto it without the cap sitting square to the distro body. It's been a while since I handled a distributor but I believe the notch should be a few degrees away from the wire pigtail. The cap will fit on the distributor any which way, but once you have it right you will feel it sink down a bit as the notch in it mates with the matching part of the distributor.

The one that I got fro the parts store is about !/8" smaller then the one I have. I had nothing to do with with the big crack in it that is the way it was when I got the slant from the farmer.

Thanks for the help.
