I have a pounding issue during idling, acceleration, and cruising at low rpm.
The cylinder compression is good, highest 165psi lowest 150psi. It has a new holley 2280, I put in new spark plugs, cap, the rotor was good. I am for a loss because last week I had no problems with this truck. When I say pounding I mean the engine shakes at idle and I can feel when each cylinder fires. I have a working choke and have adjusted the idle mix to the best of my ability, oh the initial timing is 8* I set the timing with the vacuum advance hose off and plugged the after it was set I returned the hose to the distributor.

Thanks in advance

The oil level is between the lines on the dip. As for the timing chain I don't know but, the timing set was new a year ago. Is there a way to check for timing chain skip without removing the timing chain cover?
Thanks DusterIdiot

Ok well if this isn't egg on my face, I figured out why it was pounding/jerking. I pulled the plug wires off and checked them with a ohm meter and low and behold 3 of them had open circuits. So I got new wires, went to put them on and half of #1 plug came off with the wire. So new plugs as well I guess that one had ben dropped. Btw the first set of wires were from autozone never again.

The only reason to ever buy from autozoned is if you break down in the pouring rain. Then buy their products, install them on the side of the road, and drive to a Napa.

Same thing happened to me as far as the bad wires they were old not new. i have never had one issue out of a AZ product if I do i just take it back and they make it right. The napa here is just a bunch of overpriced jerks. Same junk as the rest of the stores just 10 bucks higher

You could get the 8mm Universal set from Summit Racing.....only $34 and they are blue silicone to match your engine. I have been running mine about 7 years now.

Click on the red link below to view them. Double click on the picture for full screen slide show mode for a closer look.

I just did the Summit universals last week. Quality wires. I have a changable jaw wire crimper with a set of spark plug wire jaws. It made life nice. I wish they would have had straight dist. cap boots but the 90's worked out OK. A good set for the money. Higher quality then the NAPA set I had on. Well worth the money IMHO.

The wires I put on were advance`s finest, about $18 they are 7mm wires. They did seem kind of small but it cured the pounding I mean miss.
