in the 4 sale section a "4 speed bell housing" is listed,,
it was delivered today...
I am looking for one to fit to an iron a-833, the pilot bearing bore in the housing is the 4.35 diameter,, so that will fit ,, but the bolt mounting holes are not close.

I am returning the bell to the seller, I would like to let the seller know what it does fit, so the part can be better described next time he lists it

photo has the unidentified bell on top,, it is part number 2121863, from the mold stampings, was cast in April of 1960
on the bottom is a bell from a late 80's OD a-833

thanks

That top bellhousing is for the early cars with the trans rotated toward the driver. I think they quit doing that after the '61 or '62 model year. Someone better with the early cars should be able to tell you which. The A833 was introduced in '64 with a cast iron bellhousing.

the good news is:
the seller refunded the selling price and return shipping charges,
I just met another respectable "slant six forum" user...this is a great place to learn and do business

the housing was actually a really nice part, probably a rare part,,,just did not fit the application as described in the for sale ad

Josh is right, the laid over transmission was in 60 and 61 A bodies with the shifter in the floor pan, they straightened it up in 62 but the bolt pattern is different than the A833.

I second that!

I wonder If a similar tactic might be used to get the t5 Shifter to be in a mor stock location.

I really want to go for that stock look in my t5 conversion.

Greg,

You can just rotate your adapter plate for the T5 when you make it.

Ah, OK. Shifter mods will be your friend. You can get several shifters that will allow attachment of any shifter handle.
