I just bought an '83 /6 pickup. Did this yr. truck come with a 1bbl or was there a 2 bbl carb offered. I haven't brought the truck home yet but the man I bought it from said it has a 2 bbl. Thanks for your help.

If it is a 2bbl carb it should be a Carter BBD which is rated at 280cfm.

By the research I did it shows that in '83 the /6 only came with a 1 bbl or did some trucks come with a 2 bbl. Do I need to upgrade the ignition system??? Thanks for your help.

I hate asking dumb questions but here goes. Is a 2 bbl carb the same as a super 6 setup??? I'm trying to learn about these engines.

Good question.

Yes a Super Six utilizes a two barrel carburetor, a factory two barrel intake manifold that provides carburetor heat, some minor timing curve differences, and a bit larger exhaust system. It provided better response, and fuel economy to an engine that had become strangled by government mandated pollution controls.

Super Sixes were used on the last few years of Slant Six production, and a similar two barrel set-up was used on some export models much earlier in the Slant Six’s production.
