Hi all.

I have been reading up on this forum since i bought my first /6 2 weeks ago.
I also bought a ´81 LeBaron /6 to use for parts (mainly the 255cid)

So to my problem, it started with my points worn out so i found out that i will change over to pointless.
I have seen through the wiring diagrams here but it seems like i have something else, i have 4 wires going to the distributor and one extra relay next to the ECU, i get the car to fire but it will not start. i have had the head cover open to set the ignition correct. i will try to add some pictures.

Does anybody have a clue how to wire this up?

Here you see the ECU my question here is where is the YELLOW wire supposed to go?

As you see here is the extra relay, with one wire running from the ECU over to relay and splitting into two wires (green/yellow and orange) these goes down to the distributor with a shared (split) black wire from the ECU

Can i remove the relay and just run one down to the distributor?
Do i then have to remove something in the distributor?

You need a 2 wire plate in the distributer, the one you have is for the clean air system.

Might be best to get another distributer, or at least another plate for yours.

Richard

Ok, thanks for you´re help, i ordered one set from ebay now, will try to get it running tomorrow (i´m from norway and it is late evening here now)
I believe that if i disconnect the relay, and run the wire from the ECU direct to the right point in the distributor it WILL run.

If I understand you correctly, you want to convert a engine with point ignition to electronic.
You will need a complete different distributor, one with a single pick up and a vacuum advance unit on the side.

I have done that, but the distributer that was on my `81 lebaron has dual pick up, for the clean air system according to Richard. This unit uses a extra relay (see pictures) i have ordered a kit from ebay today to rebuild my org. dist. but that will take me about 2 weeks until it arrives. I will make this work tomorrow, one way or another, i will just eliminate the clean air system pick up and relay and direct wire it to the ECU, I guess that will work.

From my understanding one pick up is a start pick up and the other is the run pick up. I dont think it will run on just one. My start pick up was going out making it a bear to start then my run pick up died. I just went to single pick up dist.. This was on a 85 Ram w/360 though.

Really??? find that hard to understand, but im not saying you are wrong! Just that one starts the car and then the other takes over?? strange. This is vacuum operated and looks identical with the distributor with points, Now i cant sleep either :-P am only thinking about this.....

Find a 74 on up SL6 distributor. It is plug and play, only two wires to the box.
Then all the wiring diagrams in the ENGINE FAQ will make sense.

I just looked at my Aspen Chiltons and one is start pick up and one is run pick up. I imagine you need that highly sophisticated spark control computer to run them both.

The dual pick-up distributor is for the "lean burn" computer. The computer controlled the advance electronicly.Use a 73-76 single pick-up one.
