Bad accelerator pump in the carb or non-operating vacuum advance. (distributor pod or hose connections)

Make sure it is hooked to ported vacuum on the carb. Otherwise it will make the problem worse. What initial timing are you running. And, how fast is it idling at. If you can do it, try to set the timing with it in gear. Block the wheels well, put it into gear with the brake set, and check the timing. I say this because putting it in gear may reduce the RPM enough to reduce the timing by a few degrees as the RPM drops. This may be just enough to make it die.

AS Doc said, a bad accelerator pump can do the same thing. You may want to rebuild the carb if timing refinements don't solve your problem.

Could be accelerator pump or OSAC valve on firewall. Does it idle smooth then run rough when put into gear? It could be a serious vaccum leak or an intake manifold leak. Also, check your timing chain for stretch (remove dist. cap and rotate engine by hand in both directions and watch the rotor for responsiveness). Another big one is valve lash.

Hope that helps.
