On October 22, 1961 a Twelve Hour Race was held at Marlboro Race Track in Maryland. The race was an FIA sanctioned event for small sedans displacing under 200CI. To date I have located a number of sources of information on the event. Listed as having started the race but retiring early with engine failure is a single Valient. No other details are given. Does anyone know anything about the car, its drivers, its sponsors, entrant, mechanic, preparation, etc.? Thanks Mike

Interesting. I found this out searching, but nothing else of use.

I wonder if this was an early oil pump gear failure!

Looks like they threw a rod.

Thanks, this has a little more information than I had seen previously. Anything else anyone has would be greatly appreciated. - Mike
