We would like to know how many racers would be interested in a billet crankshaft. What we would like to have made is a 225 stock demision crankshaft with 2.500 rod journals. We don't know what the cost will be because the cost depends on the quantity. Please let us know if anyone is interested.

Thanks,
Team Green

I think a number of racers would like one, but being on a budget, like me, most likely couldn't justify the cost. Can you come up with a ballpark number?

Could we get a little more info? I know, if you have to ask it's too expensive...

If possible, I'd like to know (ballpark) how heavy it might be, what company/material, and will it be good for sustained revs (road racing...).

Brent contacted three crank mfg. today and Crower is the only one that would give us a quote. They want us to send them a crankshaft to look at. They said it would cost $2200 to $2400 each for 5 to 10 crankshafts. The question has been brought up how many crankshafts have been broken, we don't know, but according to Seymour our car is putting 400 hp to the ground and we twisted ours. So as we all make more horsepower, its going to happen more and more.

I will want in on this but it will be hard to get 2K worth of "lunch money" saved-up.

Mark, Brent,
Is Crower out here on the West coast?
Let me know if you want me to send them a SL6 crank.
Let's keep shopping this around, I have some other good leads on shops that do this type of work.

I believe Crower is south of LA, like behind the Orange Curtain or something....

Count me in for sure. You said that the rod size would be 2.500?
Is this the rough size or the finished size? I think we talked that if it was
2.500 than we could either add stroke or remove it ? I am ready to order my rods and I want to make sure I get the right size (2.100) Let me know how we're doing.

Charlie,
I talked to Jim the other day and guess what, when they tore-down the motor after Clay City they also found a broken crankshaft!

I have to hand it to the Cox team, they thrashed over a couple of weeks and put a new engine in the car, then went out to Milan and ran a 9.97 with it.

Tom
A forged crank, broke right at the #6 con rod "pin" where it connects to the last small counterweight.
Most of the busted cranks I've seen / heard about are breaking at that spot.
