I have a Melling oil pump coming for my daily driver 1977 Aspen. Should I use the old gear off my old oil pump or should I roll the dice and just install it? I searched this subject and couldn't find an definite answer. If so besides Doc's tie rod puller how do I go about removing new gear off of pump? will a gear puller work? How about bearing knifes and a hydraulic press? I need to check the interference fit, right? Do I tack weld old one on shaft?
Thanks Mike

Do Not use the new gear, you might use the old gear ?
You don't need to spot weld it should fit real snug.

Mike a press and some bar stock will take it off. I have a jig I made and have pulled about 50 now.

I've now encountered two types of gears on the new melling pumps...

You'll have to pull the new gear and determine if the gear and shaft are keyed or not...to see if the old/OEM gear will properly fit...
