What about a sticky throttle blade?

When the idle is high, force the throttle closed with your hand and see if it lowers...........

There wasn’t a throttle position problem due to maladjustment of cables.

What I have discovered is the timing was jumping up, and the light spring has not been able to pull the advance weights back to rest every time the throttle plates are closed. I have started a new discussion in “Engineâ€￾ here.

After examining the plugs today that now have almost a thousand miles of running with 57 jets, they look to be in the “Bestâ€￾ range based on “4secondsflat dot com photos, I’m now thinking of installing the 60 jets in the 390 Holley. I have the power valve problem under control by backing off the lash and picking up several inches of vacuum at idle. Previously the engine suffered poor fuel mileage due to a mislabeled 2.5 power valve that was perhaps an 8.5 valve that was wide open all the time except when coasting down a hill…LOL--- But hey, that slant would haul with all that fuel surging through its manifold. Yeah baby…

I shall inform you readers how this adjustment plays out.

The 60 jets are installed, but it is raining here, and a car show tomorow, so no test drive. I don't want to spend any time cleaning the car, so I'll test tomorow on the way to Ellsworth about 30 miles away...
