The radiator in my '66 Dodge Coronet (225 slant) leaks horribly. I'd like to get a new rad to put into it (or at least price one out and compare that to recoring, though the former is probably better because of the pounds of stop-leak that was sprayed onto it many years ago). I checked with radiator.com and they said they had nothing on the continent that was suited. I used the online search with usradiator.com, and also found that nothing was suggested.

Are there any radiators that can be just bolted in and hooked up without modification for this car? If you happen to know of a manufacturer and even part number, I'd be quite appreciative.

If it's not that easy, any recommendations for a rad that will do the trick with the least amount of effort?

That may be a tricky one, the Coronet came in 1965, was redesigned for 1966, and got a new body in 1968, have you checked out the Plymouth Belvederes and other B-bodies that was made on the same platform, or maybe Chryslers? I have seen listed parts covering Cornets and Chargers from all the years from 1965 to 1969, which indicates they had much in common. You could follow this link to Spectra Premium's catalog with very exact pictures, and also very detailed measurements, and see if you can locate a similar looking radiator. The link above is for a 1969 Coronet. Click on the radiator part number to get a picture, and click the picture to make it larger. You can also enter the radiator number in the part number search, and get a list of all models and years that a specific radiator covers. You can order the radiators through RockAuto.com. Often such relatively small things as placement of fittings for transmission cooler lines or bolt holes can be the only thing that differs between two part numbers. Remember to check the size and location of hose in- and outlet fittings.

If no luck there, you could take a photograph of your radiator, or make a sketch along with measurements, and post it here to see if a member recognizes a similar type.

Please tell us what you come up with, it can be a good future reference for other members.

Thanks Olaf. I'll look more into Spectra Premium.

When I spoke with the nice gal at radiator.com, she indicated that they did indeed have an internal part number, but that no such part was in stock anywhere in any of their warehouses, and that she doubted anything was forthcoming.

I'll look into whether the other B-bodies have something that will suffice. I will indeed post my results here.

I have pulled it from the car, and thinking I'll head to a local rad shop with it in hand to let them have a look and see if they know of something that is most similar. I suppose even if I can get relatively close, I'll be able to run different lengths of hose and tubing, provided I can weld on some new mounts for it, or some such thing.

I think you can use a Dart/Aspen/Valiant/Duster/Scamp/Volare radiator, take a look at the pics and measurements in these two links, if the core is about the same size, it seems like you can trim off some on the sides, and get hoses for a newer model, I believe they had roughly the same distance between engine and radiator.
It seems the angle for the lower hose fitting is very different from the newer ones.

I looked at the Spectrum Dart Radiator for 66 slant 6 and it noted "not available" and provided no dimensions

I just finished putting a 66 Dart slant 6 3 row oversize radiator (17 1/2 x 22) in my 65 Dart. I purchased the radiator new from Quanta ....

I'd be willing to send you dimensions for inlets/outlets & mounts to see if it could be adapted to your Coronet as suggested.

hey DonPal, did that radiator use the stock mounting holes? I ordered an oversized radiator from US radiator and I had to modify the mounts. my dart needs a radiator and I want it to use the stock mounts

FYI,
The factory did not offer the 22 inch wide radiator in A-Body cars (Dart) in 64, the radiator support "cut-out" and mounting holes are narrower then the 65 and up cars.

The 65 Dart has cutout & mounting holes that lined up & matched perfectly with the 22 inch radiator that Quanta sold for a 66 Dart.

Since I'm running an electric fan I find the extra capacity will help keep the fan off for a considerable time when in stop & go traffic, toll booths, etc. on a hot day.

Unless your going for originality, you can use a radiator from a '70,s car. They will have a square tank, not rounded. Big deal, still do the same thing. A B body from the '70's should work. My '72 Satellite had a 22" rad when I bought it, stuck a 19" in when original blew (really), and went back to a 22" that I pulled from a '70's Dart. I think I had to relocate the two bottem holes on that one. Big deal. Point being, if you have to relocate a hole or two, its not hard to do and the radiator support will cover them up anyway, so who is going to know?
