I decided it's time to quit playing around and get some real compression out of this pig.

Pulled it out and brought it home a couple weeks ago.

Pistons are at -.020" in the hole, and now I have a head with 45cc chambers. That should do some wonderful things for me I hope.

While I was in there I decided to check the cam because this thing has been a pig ever since I reassembled it after the last nitrous "incident". I have been using the same cam chain and bushing forever, so I just lined up the dots when I put it together. Unfortunately, that must have been before I got new glasses, because the cam was a whole tooth advanced. That would explain why this thing would 60' like crazy and then run out of wind at the 1/8th mile mark. I backed it up so that now it is in at 101* instead of 92.

I put the head on the other day w/o a gasket and w/1.6 rockers and clayed for piston to valve clearance. Thinnest spot was .060", so with a Fel Pro I am good to go.

Put the head on Wednesday night and added my Cox/RAS 1.6 rockers just for fun. I also stole my buddy Bill's pushrods he left at my place because I needed shorter tubes after the mill job and roller rockers. Turned it over a few times while setting the valves and had no clicks or tinks, and it never got tight.

This afternoon my wife came out to the garage and helped me put the timing cover and damper back on. She also helped put in the spark plugs and tape the ports shut for now. She is a great helper. :D

Hopefully I can get some time off work to get this thing back in the red car and get it to the track before the snow flies.

I want to make sure it is ready to go when the Daytona comes back from my buddy Jeff's shop. He had a minor delay in doing my headers. He went in for some minor surgery and woke up with a broken rib. :x

Talked to him the other day and he has healed up enough that he is ready to start on them again. In the mean time, he says he really likes having my car in his shop because it has been drawing a ton of people in to look, and he tries to sell them stuff while they are there.

No, she was at school when I did that part. She's working on her Masters of Psychology. She thinks she's gonna fix what's wrong in my head.

Mark, not sure when I'll have time to get it back in the car and get out. I have been on 6 day weeks at work for months now.

I don't think it's in the head...she'll probably find a rod knock and would
not like what's at the bottom of the sump...but I think once you get your bearings, there won't be much runout...

I thought we were talking about degrees of advance, not the advanced degree...Sounds like you've got a winner. I know that there are quite
a few jobs here in Oregon for psychologists and psychiatrists that have opened up in the last couple of years.

I think that Big D (if he knows it or not) has become a "case study".

Nice rundown, and good progress, D.

Tell Caroline that no one can fix your head and that path is a risky one for married couples in general... (fix me, fix you...) Chris and I gave up on fixing each other right away. She will be a great psych'er, we have no doubt, though!

Lou

I always defer to "physician heal thyself" Lou.

Motor is safely back at the shop. I am hoping to have time to go down Sunday and install it.

Made it down today and got the motor in and running. Sounds really good, idles in gear, and goes on the limiter with the brake on.

Weather permitting, I want to go down and finish the fine tuning next Sunday and hopefully get it to 41 for some shakedown passes. :D

Stopped by the Chicago Connection tonight and picked up a 5 gal. can of VP C-12 for the little red piggie. At $12 a gal. I'm glad season is almost over.

I am hoping to get down after work Saturday and finish the fine tuning. Then it's on the trailer and bring it home so I can get out to 41 Sunday. It is supposed to be mid 70's and sunny. :D
