I am excited about this. I ordered it from Matt Cramer this morning. I ordered with the timing control add on, but will leave it mechanical until fuel is dialed in, as was recommended by almost everyone.

I hope it does not turn bad the way the Accel did. The car runs OK now, but I want better. I had the same hopes for the Accel set up. I am counting on support from the MS II guys out there to help me get up and running and dialed in. Thanks ahead of time. Wish me luck.

Sam

The new ECU arrived on Thursday, and I have been glued to the computer and Megamanual since. I have not plugged it in and tried yet, even though I know I can simply go back to MS I if it does not work for some reason. The things that happen with computers surprise and confound me daily. It is not my comfort zone at all.

The unknown at this point is whether I can get the laptop linked up to the ECU. The ECU has to be powered up to tell, and I do not have a stim to tell that. So I will likely just plug it into the harness and give it a try.

A really wierd thing happened Thursday evening that I cannot explain. At Matt's recommendation, I downloaded Tuner Studio to my PC, and copied it over to my lap top. I then tried to open an existing MSQ file in the lap top, and work offline as I was used to doing in both Mega Tune and Accel. It would not open one, so, I figure, I will copy the MSQ files to my thumb drive and copy them to the PC, and try it there. But when I go to copy all the MSQ files, they now have Tuner Studio listed in the properties line on the index. So it seems as if Tuner Studio has already effected existing MSQ files.

So I copy them over to the PC anyway, and try to open them in MEga Tune on the PC, and wait a minute.........the Mega Tune 2.25 now reads Mega Tune 2.25p3 at the top of the screen, and the dash board shows all of the dials and tabs that would be associated with MS II. However, it will not load a file and let me work with it. All the options are grayed out under the tabs. I do not know what p3 means in this screen. How did this happen? Does anybody know why my PC Mega Tune now looks like MS II?

So the PC, which I would not be using to set up and tune MS II seems to have the appropriate look to do so. And the lap top, which is now set at the appropriate baud rate for communicating with MS II has Tuner studio, and a Mega Tune which still looks like MS I when I open it up.

I am not sure of how to procede. I guess it is not an earthshaking choice, but I feel confused by what has happened so far. I did nothing intentionally to either the MSQ files on the laptop, the MEga Tune 2.25 on the PC.

I was able to eventually open an older MSQ file on the lap top with MEga Tune, and copy and paste the screenshots of the constants, enrichment table, and VE table into a word document, so have a working set up on hard copy in case whatever is loaded into MS II from MAtt will not start the car, I have something to work from to load this information manually. Assuming my lap top will talk to the ECU at all. I have not seen the Tuner Studio screens in action, so the instructions to import and export and thus convert old files into MS II compatible ones is pretty theoretical at this point. So, I feel like a back up plan is at hand.

I wonder if there is a way to copy my apparently upgraded version of MEga Tune 2.25p3 into a separate folder on the laptop so I can keep an older version of 2.25 on the same computer as the newer 2.25p3 (whatever that means), and then have my choice of tuning programs for MS II, while still maintaining the ability to communicate with MS I if I wish to return there for a bit.

Anyway, I have a youngun' coming over some time soon to hold my hand while we try to get this thing talking to the PC. Any advice would be welcomed and listened to with an open, and eager mind. Thanks.

Sounds like the default program when you open a file has been changed.

Either use the 'Open with' command when you open the file

or

Start the application, then open the file from within the application.

I have been trying to open the file from within the program. I wonder what would happen if I turn that around and double click on the file from within windows explorer?

I got it running today. It took a little bit of fiddling with port settings, and plugging in the USB adapter into various ports before communication was established. After that, Tuner Studio informed me there was an ini. mismatch, and after being unsure of which option to chose from the dialogue box that opened, I bit the bullet and clicked on the one that said some version of "fix this". And it did.

After selecting 6 for the number of cylinders, it started the first time I cranked the engine, but she died from being lean. So with a bit of tuning on both afterstart enrichment values, REQ fuel, and the VE table, I was able to get it to idle OK. I set the RPM bins to reasonable values for a slant. That is where it is now. Next I will need to try and get the cruise values adjusted some in the VE tables.

Here are some questions I have that result from my trying to learn Tuner Studio.

1. Instead of the vertical axis being labeled KPA or MAP, it says %of engine load. I do not know how to interpret this. It seems to flow just like the MAP values, but I don't know what numbers to put in for forced induction use. Right now the top value is 100%. 100% of what? Is this the same as a value of 100KPA? Since my wide band gauge does not work, I am tuning blind right now. But, maybe the AF ratio gauge can give me some useful info. I have turned off the feed back, so am tuning in open loop.

2. There is no O2 sensor feedback value labeled as such. Instead there is an AF gauge. But I do not have a wide band gauge wired in yet, so it is reading a narrow band. So this cannot be real AF ratio information but just an estimate.

Is anybody out there using tuner studio? Any insight into using this tuning program?

Sam

Regarding the AF ratio gauge in Tuner Studio, I found out it reports back only "lean" or "rich" in a digital fashion. I really like Mega Tune's analogue looking narrow band O2 gauges. This is a serious weakness for anyone with a narrow band O2 sensor trying to use Tuner Studio. They will not be able to use Emsvital's rough equivalents of narrow band voltage and AF ratio. I could hook up a simple volt gauge for this I suppose. I guess I could also buy a cheap narrow band gauge and hook it up to the old, existing O2 sensor. I will have to bite the bullet soon and crawl under the dash, (with the seat out at my age) and fish out the wiring for the Inovate gauge and send it off. It would have enormous value now, in many ways.
