 Post subject: TBI on my ancient motor?

I have a 1964 1/2 Barracuda with a slant. Can I put a TBI on it? If so where can I get one?

You could put TBI on a slant. The Holley setup on a 3.9 V6 would probably work fine. A Rochester setup off a 3.8 GM would probably work fine. The difficult part is that for the trouble and expense the factory setups dont return a lot over a BBD Carter carb.

A better choice would be Mega Squirt with TBI. Several members have done this.

Yes. There are several guys on here that are running TBI and there are lengthy discussions about what systems work etc...

Personally, I would skip TBI and go straight for MPEFI, but that's just me.

You can do a search with TBI in the search phrase and a number of threads will pop up. The guys who experimented with this initially eventually went to Mega Squirt control. I am pretty sure Dart 270 still has the Holley TBi on his 64, controlled with Megasquirt.

Go to Megamanual.com, and start reading there. You can read for weeks, learning something the entire time. Don't rush the process. It takes time to absorb.

I've found that TBIs don't have the best fuel distribution, and multi-port can help with that. That said, it's pretty easy to get a TBI bolted on to an existing four barrel intake, and probably wouldn't even be too hard to mod a Super Six intake for one. So that can make TBI a good stepping stone, or even pick up some benefits of EFI on its own.

That sounds very involved, confusing, and expensive. I will just have my 1bbl rebuilt. Thanks guys.

Good idea. WHile I have deep respect for the guys who have made the effort to get TBI working on their slants, for me, I would rather spend my energy going straight to MPEFI. Otherwise, just run a well-tuned carb.
