Yesterday I brought home my newest project (going to super six) and right away I've uncovered a snag which, after researching this forum, seems to be a common problem. That is, the two 3 3/4" bolts that connect the intake to exhaust manifold are thoughly rusted in place. Do the bolts thread into the exhaust manifold or do they pass through and the nuts compress the junction of the two pieces? I haven't yet thoroughly destroyed the nuts on each bolt, but it probably won't be long. Has anyone cut the bolts at the point where they are exposed and removed them that way? They are presently being soaked periodically with PB Blaster without any success. Thank you for your anticipated help.

You might have to heat them where they thread into the manifold .Do you need to take them apart for some reason?

I am taking them apart so I can fix an exhaust leak there, bead blast them, repaint, etc.

I went through that experience of a leak between the two manifolds. The bolts were so rusted they crumbled and had to be drilled out. So I went over size and used stainless steel bolts and nuts with a Remflex gasket. The manifolds had to be resurfaced. It has worked well the last 5 years and will never rust again.
