Hi,

So I need new shocks. Currently have a 1967 VC valiant.

Shocks are shot. Has torsion front suspension and leaf spring rears.

I use this car as a fun street car, I like to get alot of power and I don't mind a hard ride but I don't want to feel like I'm driving a truck if you understand what I mean?

Is there any point in getting Tubular control arms?
I was going to get QA1 shocks all round? Anyone have a reason not to? Since they were adjustable I don't see a problem?
Is there any point getting Shocks that come with the spring on the shock as well? I'm thinking it's a bad idea to have springs and torsion bars at once with shock etc?
And I'll be going Poly Urethane (sorry if my spelling is dodge:/) bushes all round.
Also will lowering blocks have a negative effect on my handling?


Anyone have any advice or know whether I should get something else etc? thanks.

Not if you can achieve the alignment settings you want/need with stock control arms.

If Spax shocks are available in your area I would use them. They are gas charged and have a wider range of adjustment than the QA1 shocks. They are also meant to fit Aussie Valiants directly.

The shock mounts are not meant to handle spring loads. If you want higher rate springs, buy higher rate springs.

I don't like polyurethane bushings in the front end very much. They squeak and wear. The small handling difference between new rubber and poly on a street car is usually more than offset by the trouble they cause. Poly in the leaf springs can help keep the body to axle relationship steady and reduce or prevent tire rub if you've stuffed the wheel wells.

Lowering blocks if not too tall usually do not impact handling much. I prefer to raise the front spring eye to lower the car before resorting to lowering blocks.

I would use new rubber front end bushings, 1" torsion bars, Spax shocks, 25-30mm front sway bar, 6-leaf rear springs, front spring hangers which raise the front spring eye, no rear sway bar and 17x8" wheels with 245/40R17 tires.
