helllo all,
As usual with these earlier darts my temp and gas gauge do not work. they both read below the first notch. So I read online about the fix with a voltage regulator to the back of the circuit board. Still nothing. I check the the pin connectors and not one of them is loose. the voltage works and I tested it with a voltometer. I'm completely dumbfounded and don't know where to go next...I heard grounding the sending unit for the gas tank to see if that does anything but since it's both that are maruntioning the. I'm guessing that's not the problem.
ANY help would help :D

Have you use the test meter on the gauges in the ohm scale (no power to board)? This will tell us if the windings in the gauges are good or if the "bad" regulator took out the gauges. The new regulator would not help after the bad one takes out the gauges.

my dart didn't originally have the voltage regulator in the back so I did this modification -http://www.slantsix.org/articles/instrument-reg/instrument_reg.htm

I'll check the ohm reading and let you know what it reads.

If I am reading the page on the link right you do have a regulator but it is part of the gas gauge-what year Dart do you have?

it's a 1965. I currently have a working voltage regulator connected to the back panel according to the article I previously posted

I am currently having a similar issue. BUT, I have a 65 D100 pick-up. My gauges are different in the back from the Dart but my regulator is also part of my gas gauge... Which seems to tell me that I ALWAYS have 3/4 tank and my temp gauge (which I removed) would peg at full hot moments after the key got switched to 'on'.
Is there a mod I can do to get a regulator in my dash and get my gauges working too? I am temped to buy a whole new gauge cluster that is on ebay and take my chances but it is $100... My pockets are light as it is. lol

Replace the gas gauge? It has the troubled regulator in it so if you find a good gas gauge the regulator should be fine.

First ground the wire going to your sending unit to see if your gas gauge budges. I know it's most likely not the problem, but you can go spending $$$ and chasing your tail in circles for weeks because sometimes two random problems will come up at the same time. Might as well troubleshoot the free stuff first. Stranger things have happened.
