anyone one know the stock cc of a head or whats a good cc for a worked head??

They are somewhere near 58cc.

The spec Chrysler gave NHRA is 54 cc's, but 99 44/100% are larger.

Depends on the year and if any seat/valve work has been done...

Get one, do your block calcs, then measure and have head scraped to match required chamber volume...

This one is beat to death, and I know there's other great threads on it, that one was just easy to find, cause I knew I started it!

It makes the point though - there are reported stock chamber measurements from 53cc to 68cc. A pretty high variance in a very short thread!

Here is the real "kicker"...
The factory listed the static compression ratio for the 225 SL6 at 8.4 to 1

Factory specs for the bore, stroke and a negitive deck height of .140 are documented and we know that a steel shim (.020 thick) head gasket was used into the mid 70's... I have never seen factory info on the head chamber size.
Run those numbers with the NRHA's 54 cc head chamber figure and you get an 8.87 static CR!

OK... work the numbers again, using a 56 cc chamber and a -.160 deck height and you get 8.400 to 1... exactly.

The point... the published numbers and the actuals can be different and what we actually see, engine to engine, also varies quite a bit... so take the time to measure and do the math.

just wondering because i dont actually know the extent of my head work because i bought it off a circle track racer. it was a spare head he had. but it has 1.80intake 1.50 exhaust valves and i checked cc and come up with 65cc. Didnt know if that was near stock or it the bowls where worked alot. thats all.

That sounds pretty big. Can you measure the dimension from the head/block surface to the valve cover surface? All the uncut heads I have measured, were between 3.590 and 3.610. This would at least give you an idea, if it has been milled.

i'll bring home a mic. and check. i know it was cut at least .005" once. i had it cut the second time i had the head off and the valves 3 angled. but i'll measure and post it.

That measurement I gave is just an indicator, if the head has ever been milled. There was a lot of factory tolerance. You already know there has been some milling. I just noticed in your other thread, that big valves were installed and the chambers opened up to unshroud the valves. That is probably why the CC's are as much as they are.
You need to measure everything and determine what compression ratio you want, and get the head milled to get to that CR.
