The wire in my 1965 Australian Valiant runs like this:
Battery + to starter solenoid,
Starter solenoid (via 50 amp Maxi fused wire)to starter relay,
Starter relay to ammeter,
Ammeter to power circuit.

Would you have any photos or links to your wiring mod ?
My 1965 Australian Valiant doesn't have the bulkhead connectors,the wires from the starter relay run straight through the firewall/bulkhead to the ammeter,the same with the alternator wires.

You could but its probably not necessary since alt. to battery+ is likely the be the path of least resistance.

No. The fusible link(s) aren't between the battery and alternator (correct me if I'm wrong).

It should be noted that, that its likely that the suggested wiring of alt. to battery+ was meant to include the voltage regulator somewhere in between.

Also, I think the more modern wiring Sam mentioned mostly refers to the removal of the bulkhead connectors to be replaced with something more elegant and with a lot less resistance.

Sam would you please share your upgrades in a new thread and maybe include some photos? I'm sure one of the moderators would love to add more links in the electrical FAQ.

As the 1965 Australian Valiant never had any fusible links/fused wires in their circuit,i have added a 50 amp fused wire between the starter solenoid and starter relay (as per diagram) which connects at the same post on the solenoid as the battery + cable.
I was told not to connect/run any 12V fused power wires from the battery + terminal as this would counteract the 50 amp fused wire i have installed and to run any 12V power from the starter relay where the fused wire connects.
This is why i asked the question about running the proposed wire(as per diagram)to the battery + terminal.
What i don't get is that all the wires are connected anyway,ie,battery positive cable is connected at the starter solenoid terminal to the 50 amp fused wire which in turn is connected at the starter relay terminal to the ammeter circuit.
So wouldn't this mean it was one complete circuit anyway ?

I believe the correct location of the fusible link should be from Batt. + to the starter relay... and if you had wired it like this there would be no issue.

To Optima Jim, I have been using a 2000 Honda CRV battery because of its small physical size and it is plenty powerful to start my slant for 2 years now. Is Optima making a battery for the Honda ?

If you look at the wiring diagram,the battery + cable goes to the starter solenoid first,then to the starter relay.This is how it is from factory.
Every other AP6 i have seen is wired like this as well.

The order doesn't matter all that much. You could put the fusible link between the Bat. + and starter relay or to the starter (although the starter draws a lot of current and could bust the fusible link pretty often, I'd opt for a second, unfused, cable to the starter).

However, with the fusible link between the alt. and batt. you're only protecting the batt. from over-current. If you have a fault in your wiring you might still fry some of your components (like your ammeter).
