Re: title... I've owned multiple slant sixes, and all of them have leaked oil, so I was wondering if anyone's found a gasket for the rocker cover that does not leak? I need to check the valve clearances on the rig I just bought and so wondered what gasket to get BEFORE I pull the cover

Once the valve cover is flat, cork works fine until it's over torqued.

I run the rubberized gaskets, so I can retorque them several times.
Available at most major auto parts stores. I got my last one at Carquest.

I use a small ball pean hammer and a block of wood to straighten out my valve covers. So far, I haven't had one come into my ownership that hadn't been overtorqued and dimpled around the bolts.

I use the rubber ones so I can reuse them.

Also smear some white grease on both sides so it doesn't stick..........

LOL, wet siders Too bad yer so far away. That's a 5 to 6 hour drive for me, assuming no bad traffic through hel... err, Portland area.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll check and see what I can find that's rubber. Would lubriplate work as good grease for prevention of sticking?

I use the Fel-Pro rubber ones with my dart (and other slants) which has a spray bar in the top of the valve cover so there is tons of oil coming down in there.. no problems or leaks and they are re-useable... Just dont overtighten.

I also use a Fel-Pro rubber gasket, and never use a wrench to torque it down, only a nut driver. I have found that ones hand can feel where the sweet spot between leaks & no leaks is without over tightening. I also have cemented the gasket to the valve cover so it won’t get out of shape from being stretched during cover removal when half it stays with the head, and the rest sticks to the cover.

That gasket has been on and off the head countless times and still seals with no oil dribbles.

Nick, R is for rubber. So that's the one that is being recommended in most of the comments above.

Personally, I like the cork ones better. I use weather strip cement to hold the gasket to the valve cover, and a wipe of grease, on the head side. Do not over tighten and make sure the flange is straight, and flat.

I have never used them, but I hear good things about these gaskets.

Real-Gaskets! They are worth the price. I had their valve cover gaskets on my motorcycle for over 20 years!(Never Leaked)
