Hello everyone, My front driving/turn signal lights do not come on when I engage light switch. Headlights come on and all 4 rear lights come on. Brake lights work when pedal is depressed. Turn signals do not work. The strange part is I have installed a hazard light system on car ( appx 8 months ago ) and has always worked great. When I engage hazard light switch all 4 lights activate ( front 2 and back 2 ). Fuses are all good. Bulbs are good. Wiring appears good. I removed backup switch yesterday due to it not working properly. I did not check turn signals then as I never thought backup switch would cause a issue with turn signals. Could it be because backup switch removed. If so why would hazard light work. Hazard system is on same circuit as turn signals. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Do they work when the parking lights are on (no headlights)?

With earlier (not sure of cutoff year) models, the parking lights would turn off when the headlights were activated.

Hi Ed , No the parking lights do not come on at all from light switch. The normal function for this year ( 1966 Dart ) is for the parking lights to stay on when headlights are on. They do come on though when I engage the Hazard switch. Weird. Ed

I know based off my 74 dart I have a "flasher can" one for hazards and one for turn signals:

And if this goes bad then the entire turn signal system can be compromised

Hi Nongan , Thank you for suggestion. I checked flashers ( There is orig on fuse block and another one that came with my Hazard kit ) both are good. The thing that is really stumping me is that the flashers work. The aftermarket flasher kit I installed splices right into existing wires. :?

I’m fairly sure that parking lights staying on while headlights burn happened when side marker lights became mandatory in 1968. Side marker lights are part of the parking light circuit.

I remember when this change took place as it was odd to see a car with all the extra lights on, and their parking lights being amber in color.

My 67 dose not burn parking lights when headlights are on.

I put in a hazard flasher into a 65 Barracuda w/o porblems; it used a 4 HD diodes, a illuminated SPST switch, & a fuse. The headlight switch is good if the back lights work, and since they light up the feedthrough is good, so that only leaves the turn signal switch & its wiring. I would check at the turn signal connector at the steering column 1st for corrosion and overheating, then see what's coming in and going out - turn signal switches do go bad.

Also check for excessive play in the turn signal switch. You can check to see if too much play is a problem by pressing your finger to the center of the switch, and operating the signals, four ways, parking lights, and brake lights. If it is too sloppy don’t mess around, just replace it.
