Can i run the wires form the stock amp meter on the dash to the new volt meter?

You can wire your volt meter to any switched 12 volt source. The most common one is to use the cigarette lighter. One wire to the red, one wire to ground somewhere. If it reads backwards, or tries to go to the left, switch the leads.

I just thought that through. Maybe the cigarette lighter is not switched. Check that with your volt meter, and make sure it is off when the key is off. The radio main power feed would work.

Cigar lighter is not switched so it is hot all the time, and is also fused.
