well im at the point where i want just a hair more out of my slant, i already have a super six with a 318bbd. im thinking of stepping up to a 2300 series. not looking for any extensive upgrades at this time, just because its my daily driver. already have a 2.25 exhaust, upgraded ignition, and a home brewed cai.

im looking for any suggestions for more power, and yes i know speed costs money.

your thoughts?!

Since nobody is biting...

I've heard that the BBD is the largest 2bbl carb you would want to use on a stock motor. And that rather than the Holley 350, a small 4bbl is recommended. I was actually looking to upgrade to a Holley 390 4bbl with an Aussiespeed hurricane short runner (are they out yet?), or an Offy.

I think you will likely get recommendations like: head work, dizzy recurve, and cam. However, some of these aren't always the easiest with something you need to drive on Monday. What you could do is get another head and have that one worked on then just swap after its done. The swap should go easy enough over the weekend, and you'll definitely notice a difference. Plus, if you do just a little compression you could end up coming out of it cheaper than a new carb.

Raising the compression will give you more increase in horse power than going to a bigger 2BBL carb or even a 4BBL carb.

Here's some "real world" figures for you. A swap from a Holley 350 2BBL to a 390 4BBL made my car 0.1 sec quicker and 1 mph faster over the 1/4 mile, an increase in compression made it 0.4 sec quicker and 5 mph faster.

Raising compression a moderate amount on a slant has absolutly no down side, except for the amount of labor required (which is not excessive). It will give you more "efficency" throughout the rpm range, which equates to more power AND better milage. My low buck drag car, picked up .3 sec and 3mph in the 1/4 mile, with just a .100 head mill. No other changes. In my opinion, it is the "best bang for the buck" single modification.

i can only assume larger valves would also help, but it being a stock short block might be overkill?
