Very glad to hear it. Hope we get to line up early in the season next year and see what you're made of!!

Lou
Well, I'm sure it will be none too impressive at first. I'm sure my lights will be all over the place for awhile.

It would be great if it was back together and I could tow that thing back up here on the way back from the banquet in February!

That would give me some time to get it track ready and get some seat time at Ohio Valley and US 60 before I debut it at a Slant 6 race.
Rob that should be doable. Im glad you had a GREAT weekend. Looking forward to seeing the whole gang this holiday season.
Frank

We mapped out our route last night. My brother-in-law lives in Mountainburg where we are staying the first night. Then we'll push on to Albuquerque on day two and then on in to Tucson the third day. Hopefully the weather report won't be too scary.

On the way back we'll push it into two days along the lower route: Tucson to Dallas and then Dallas home. We have three people to split the driving chores now that Andrew has his permit. I'm sure I will still wind up driving 90% of the time as usual...

Maybe we can meet for lunch like when you came through E-town. :?:

Is there any chance that engine and tranny might possibly be out and strapped to the dolly by 2 January?...

Wasn't able to meet up with Frank on the way through Arkansas either way. :( Planning to head back down there this weekend to pull the engine and tranny.

The "three people to split the driving chores" thing worked pretty well on the way out West...

Not so well on the way back. "I'm sure I will still wind up driving 90% of the time as usual..." was more acurate.

I talked to Lukus the other day and he hasn't done much more to the Duster yet, so I may not be bringing it back after the banquet in February.

I may take a couple days off after the banquet and work on it then. Maybe I'll learn a little about welding  :D

I've exchanged a couple emails with Lukus.

The engine compartment is ready for the engine to be dropped in. Just waiting for Gary to finish it up. He was waiting on some parts for the rocker arms last I talked to him.

I'm going to request a couple days off right after the banquet to stay down there and thrash on the Duster. :D

(Lou, you've probably already talked to Meril, but I gave Lukus a heads up that you might be looking at staying over on Monday)

I may have the roll bar to replace the one we had to cut out.

It's the one that Ron Parker and Rick Mariano (DagoRed) donated to the cause several years ago. I had sent it with the GodsRods Duster I car when Frank picked it up to play with.

He's still got it... somewhere. I would have picked it up when I was down there this last weekend, but Frank would have had to dig it out and wasn't quite sure where it was. Hopefully he'll bring it to the banquet next month.

I called Gary last night to see where he was on the engine. He still hasn't done anything more to it and hasn't picked up the rocker arm parts yet.

He said he didn't want to put the engine/trans in the car until Lukus and Meril were done welding on it.

I told him it was okay with me if he wanted to go ahead and drop it in there since the welding will all be in the passenger compartment.

Might be the wrong move, but it would mean something was getting done...

(Gary does need to get my engine out of his way so he can go through his engine for this next season)

There won't be any gettin' in gear for them for awhile. See my post in Social Corner.

I've been exchanging emails/texts with Lukus.

The welding shop is still okay and they are already into cleaning up the rubble from the other shop. They have lots of local help.

I had thought he said that the ENTIRE shop was burned down. They still have a place to work and most of their welding equipment. I'll update the other thread.

Lukus said he wants to continue working on the Duster after all. :D

I stopped by a body shop at lunch today and picked up four plastic fascias (bumper covers) to replace the missing front bumper on the Duster. They were free and I wasn't sure which one would work best. That's the reason for four.

I have been thinking about doing this for quite awhile. Now that I'm back and both Guzzi Mark and Greg Ondayko have successfully made this work on their cars, I'm gonna play with some plastic myself and see what I can come up with.

This will fix that "missing its lower jaw" look and improve aerodynamics without adding too much weight.

I got an email from Lukus. He was able to do some work on the Duster this weekend.

"Got the frame finished and started on the floors. Made a lot of progress on it."

So, the sub frame connectors are in and the floor repair is ongoing.

We'll wait on the roll bar to see if it makes it from Arkansas.

Still need to replace the trunk floor and some other interior pieces, but will need to wait for the roll bar to be done first.

Rob, I have lost track. What (how many) cars are you building?
There is/was duster #1. Duster #2, and the Turisimo, that I know of.
