Well... here we go, breaking that "rule" by pulling a good running engine, just to try something different.
Oh, and we wait until the cold, wet days of Winter to do the swap...
Dad thinks we are "nuts".

Sounds like me......wait till it is wet and cold to do engine and transmission swaps.....in my cars. Great fun!

Looking forward to pleasant working conditions during this winter for the first time in my life Department:

Man Cave is hovering at a toasty 58 degrees, bone dry, no wind, several work benches at hand with many GFCI equipped receptacles within easy reach -- a nice change considering Maine winters. Now the bad news; we are still recovering from mission creep during the new house construction this past year, so project money is tight. But, still there are several low budget labor intense projects on tap once the Christmas hub-bub is behind us…

One project will be to check camshaft timing, and perhaps change to a RV cam, and up the compression another notch! Another project will be some engine compartment house keeping involving several rattle cans, a welder, and an engine hoist. Than perhaps a new steering gear if I can junk a few more pounds of obsolete key blanks for some working capital.

Winter is now my car fix’en friend.

OK... so swapping an engine in the wet is not that bad.

Anyway... a couple of hours and the old engine is out and we are swapping parts onto the "Zing" engine.



The passenger side engine mount was sagging a bit so we swapped on one of the new poly mounts that came out of the group buy, a while back.
This is one of the softer durometer mounts but it still seems way harder then the rubber version.



Everything went back together as expected.
The only "tip" is on pouring-in the new oil... when the engine has a later "peanut plug" head. To speed-up the process, with-out making a mess, we used a long neck funnel and installed 4 quarts thru the distributor hole.

Time consuming, but worth it.

The first "load" of oil will not be in there long...
and I am not "shy" about using cheap dino oil to get the engine running, test for leaks and to "wash-out" the assembly lube and dust.
Oh... and I used a Pep Boys "Pro-Line" filter...

Yes... Zing is up and running.
So far, so good...
We are still doing all the tuning and adjustments, between all the rain storms we have been getting but overall, the engine sounds good.

One thing is for sure, that single, right side poly engine mount transmits a bunch of noise and vibration into the car's chassis... we will have to "re-think" that change.
