hello all.
I figured I would post this here - im shure alot of you guys are wondering how to get better sounding stereo systems for the car while having fun / driving around.

here is what I personaly did in the rear deck of my 72 4 door valiant



pair of 6x9 on the sides - and a 8" subwoofer hanging in the middle.

to put in the 8" sub I had to use a dremel tool with cut off wheel to carefully grind / cut out the circle to drop the speaker in place.
start off finding dead center.
then figure out the exact size your speaker needs to drop in with out much wiggle room.
make a circle template out of paper - and trace it to your rear deck with a sharpie. ... then you can cut it out with the dremel tool.

but the rear deck of my car had a bunch of open areas in the metal -
so
I got a spare sheet of 1/2" plywood from the garage - and traced my factory piece of particle board that was back there on to the plywood and cut it out with a jig saw - and sanded it down some.
test fit it to the rear deck area / sand / test fit again / sand again / ext...
by the 27th test fit back there it was perfect. lol.
then got in the trunk - and used my sharpie marker to trace out the holes for the pair of 6x9 and the 8" speaker to the bottom of the wood piece
and removed it to cut it out with the jig saw again and sanded it smooth.
I am sorry I forgot to take pix of the progress work along the way.
to bond the plywood to the rear deck I used mild expanding foam in a fiew blobs around it ( maby 6 or 8 spots ) to prevent rattling of the metal on the wood - and screwed it down with flush screws in a fiew areas ( maby only 4 screws total ) - and let the foam cure.

then I put in the carpet ( black roll of automotive carpet from walmart in the car section ) carefully cut it out and test fit it again - cut more and test fit a fiew times till it was perfect. then put it in using rubber cement just used a brush to brush it on the wood and then apply the carpet on top. let it dry a day again - and cut out speaker spots and installed them.

right now I am not using any baffles in the speakers - even the sub is running "free air" so take that in to concideration when picking a speaker to use back there.

they are running off of a 2 channel amp 150 watts rms power - in "tri mode" operation - the left and right 6x9 are using channels left and right of the amp - and the sub is 8 ohm running bridged off the + of the left channel, and the - of the right channel.

and it realley came out great - and was super low budget - and it sounds amazing. I figured id share with you guys.
im a stereo finatic - and ive got 8 speakers in my valiant so far with plans to change some things and add more later on.

when I built the box for a pair of 8" subwoofers to straddle inbetween my seats I still had the 8" subwoofer in the rear deck and felt like there was a area of mid range that was lacking so I took the rear deck 8" subwoofer out and put in a 8" midrange speaker there since I have a pair of 8" subwoofers now - I did have to remove my fold down arm rest to do this - but I hated that thing anyways.




up front I replaced the factory 4x10 speaker with a powerbass unit - and I still have 1 left un used if anyone here wants it pm me - ill send it over to you if you will use it. merry x mas lol
but the single speaker up front was not doing it for me.
so I built this little box here to house a pair of 6.5" speakers with the tweeters built in.



edit - im not real shure if I put this in the right spot - mods sorry you can move it to somewhere else if its more apropriate there.

I seen those slantfin - realley nice looking product - but i will probably build my own in the shape / theme of my interior fiberglassing when I finaly nail down the design im going to do.

since its x mas time....

I have an extra 4 x 10 " speaker that goes in the center of the dash on my 72 valiant. I have no idea what other cars / years use the 4x10" size speaker in the center -
BUT
if you car has the 4x10" speaker in the center dash - and you will actually bust out the tools and work to install this one - I will send it to you.
its a mega pain to install - getting the heater controls to lower out of the way was verry frustrating for me lol.

but again - this speaker = free to who ever will install it and use it in their car. its rated for 50w rms power - but will sound great running off 15 to 25watts from a factory headunit. speaker is single voice coil 4 ohm.





if you live super far away from south FL where I live - $5 in the paypal for shipping would be nice - but not mandatory.
