I still have to get the throttle linkage worked out, but I have run her a couple of times in the driveway. The slant sounds great! I still need to put a spacer under my home-fabbed adapter plate, but I think that I'm going to be happy with this Weber 38DGES carb. When she's running and I put my hand over the top of the carb, I can FEEL the vacuum on my palm. 8)
Oh yeah, I still need to figure out what kind of air cleaner I'm going to use.
When I take some pics, I'll post 'em in the "Slixer's Gallery".

Okay, I got the spacer issue worked out, but I'm still messing around with the throttle linkage and kickdown linkage. I just have to fab up something to where these linkages are not in a bind.
Do you guys with Weber carbs use a throttle return spring?
Hopefully I will get this sorted out this weekend.
Almost there! 8)

Oh yeah, the air cleaner. I really don't want to buy another one just for this carb, so I'm still planning to modify one of the air cleaners that I already have.

Hi Wesola78.
Take a look at this link to a thread I had some time ago: Weber air cleaner adaptor and nice 4 bbl. carb hat.

Olaf.

LOL WES! I read that without my glasses, and thought it said, "Thanks, Olaf, I could always use a reindeer"!

I can't wait to see your pics.

 Reindeer! Good one! 8)

Well, I'm still messing with the linkage. Also, I guess I'm gonna have to get some jets for this carb, it seems to be running very rich.
Onward...

Well, duh! I looked at a diagram online of this carb, and there are two, count 'em, two idle mixture screws. I have it mounted in paralell, or sideways, so I thought that the one on the "front" was the only one. It's running better now, not as rich.
I'm still trying to work out the linkage...

38DGES is a performance carb that has throttle butterflies opens synchronously means you must make sure idle jets are same value (eg: 50 & 50) and idle mixture screws must be turned exactly amount same. Sounds like still need to jet down on idle jets to like 45 or 40 and try again till you get strumble then back up one step up. Have to redo the mixture screws.

Also the main and air jets must be matched too. Work up from idle jets. Then main jet (midrange rpm) then air jet at upper range of RPM.

Wide band sensor kit is a must, makes life so easier to tune with that.

Cheers, Wizard

Thanks for the tips Wizard!
It still might be running a bit rich, but it's idling a lot better now. I also have both the throttle and the kickdown hooked up, I just need to take a test drive around my neighborhood to make sure.
I would have gotten this done sooner, but it's been rainy and cold here.

Update: Throttle hooked up and working, kickdown working also, and the Volare is idling pretty well. Drives fine, no obvious vacuum leaks. I ordered the air cleaner adapter, and I have a generic chrome open air cleaner on top of the carb. The hood might be hitting the top of the air cleaner, it's really close. I found an air filter that just a bit shorter, so no big deal.
Anyway, I still need to order some jets for it, but so far so good. I think that I'm going to like this Weber carb. :)
Hopefully, I will be able to take some pics of it this weekend...

Hey ya'll, I haven't been around much lately, but I'm still here.
I ordered smaller idle jets and installed them, and the Volare was running better. However, my custom/home fabbed adapter plate is coming apart. I guess that JBWeld isn't a good long term solution.
Anyway, it ran much better even with a vacuum leak. Now I just have to figure out what to do about the adapter plate.
Onward! 8)

Update: I just removed the spark plugs, and it looks like the Weber is still running a bit rich, according to how the plugs looked. I have jetted this carb down a couple of sizes, and a friend recommended a "hotter" ignition coil.
So, should I jet down one more size, or hotter coil, or hotter spark plugs? I do believe that there is still a vaccuum leak at the modified/hacked up Mr. Gasket adapter plate, so I should probably take care of that first.
Let me know what ya'll think. Thanks!

If your engine is not misfiring, you do not need a different coil. The coil cannot "push" extra voltage or current to the spark plugs; the voltage is determined by the total gap in the secondary side of the ignition (rotor tip to cap contact gap plus spark plug gap). Larger total gap = higher voltage. Misfire occurs when the voltage exceeds the coil's capability or the dielectric capability of the coil, plug wires, cap, and rotor to prevent arcover to ground.

That said, the plugs will be dirtier with a weak ignition system than with a strong one. What kind of ignition system are you running?

If there's a vacuum leak, it'll spoil your ability to dial in the carburetor or any other tuning parameters, so fix that first.
