i am looking into increasing valve size and was wondering what is best size???? part numbers for both intake/exhast???? planning on taking .90 off head ,bowling leaning ports , 278 cam 4 bbl on offy ,dulta duel duels

The 1.70" intake and 1.44" exhaust valves fit the stock bore and are probably still available. Check with this Ebay seller: http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/engnbldr/

I fit 1.72/1,50 Chev V8 Valves in my head. Requires radiussing the chamber and milling from the block instead of head. You can use chev springs and retainers as well. If your guides are good you can use 3/8 stems if you are repalcing the guides you can use 7/16.

I had lots of good Chev stuff because we use the bigger valves (1.94/1,60 ) in our Chevs.

Depends on bore size. For stock bore, the 1.70/1.44s are about perfect. For 0.060" over, 1.72/1.50 Chevs work well.

when you say milling the block instead of the head, do you have to mill the block?

The 1.77 will fit, but you need to start thinking about the bore masking the valve. Ford 300 valves are 1.78 and tend to be too big for the application until bore size is +.060" and larger.

I've got 1.78" Valves in a 3.445" bore. It's just too close to the cylinder wall. The 1.56 exhausts come dangerously close, so have been turned down to clear, face cut, and the bores notched. If you go this large, check to make sure the combustion chambers center over the bores. A little bit of offset can result in damage when the valve contacts the top of the cylinder. I had this happen, and it was expensive! :shock:

1.70" and 1.44" are well proven valve oversizes for the slant six.
